HANCOCK YOUTH LEADERSHIP
Developing the Next Generation of Leaders
What is HYL?
Since 1999, the Hancock Youth Leadership Program has served as an investment in the future of Findlay and Hancock County. By giving a select group of high school students the hands-on experience they need to develop their leadership and communications skills through interactive monthly session days, HYL is the motivating force creating positive role models and future leaders committed to their civic responsibilities.
Each class size is approximately 40 participants. The class meets once a month starting in August and goes on for nine months with a graduation ceremony during the last session day to round out the program. Each session day allows members to explore and learn more about the core of our community with updated information and perspectives ranging from economic development, educational systems, health & human services, public safety and agriculture throughout Findlay-Hancock County. Participants make connections with the community in which we live and work, as well as build their interest in leadership opportunities.
Who should apply?
Hancock Youth Leadership differs from Hancock Leadership in the sense that it is specifically tailored to incoming juniors in high school. Students who wish to apply can do so toward the second half of their sophomore year. Homeschool students are also encouraged to apply. Hancock Youth Leadership looks at how involved students are in their school and communities, regardless of what their leadership level or experience might be in organizations, students from all types of backgrounds are still considered.
How can one apply?
As previously mentioned, students wishing to apply can do so towards the second half their sophomore year in high school. Hancock Youth Leadership reaches out to school counselor's offices to inform students about HYL as well as to send out applications towards the second half of the school year. You can find the application and deadline to apply as well as some additional information by visiting findlayhancockchamber.com/hyl/. Students who apply will be notified of their acceptance status by the end of the school year.
